They weren’t *technically* looking for a dog, but Flint’s future family just had to meet him when they saw his handsome face online. That was just over 8 years ago, in August of 2008. Flint mostly ignored the prospective adopters at the meet-and-greet, and on the night his foster mom dropped him off, he stood at the window of his new apartment, looking for her to return for hours. He didn’t understand about receiving pets and would sit unresponsive, like a statue, when his new family offered them. With time, he warmed up to his new family and the important people in their lives, although he still ignores the vast majority of strangers that ask to greet him. He’s always polite about it, simply backing away until he’s out of their reach. They are all warned that he is a nice dog, but shy, and may not allow them to touch him.
But the truth is that if you ask his new family (and many other people who know him) to describe Flint in one word, it would be this: perfect. At nine years old, he remains up for whatever his family has on the agenda, whether it’s a lazy football Sunday or a 30 mile hike over 2 ½ days. His favorite place in the world is snuggled between his humans in bed on weekend mornings. Butt scratches, soft squeaking toys, and long walks bring him the greatest joys. His family say he is their “once-in-a-lifetime” dog, and that they are forever grateful that Flint decided they could be his people.
