About This Dog

COLTIE is a 4 year old purebred spayed female Catahoula (as of Aug 2024) from a backyard breeder. She is vaccinated and weighs about 70 pounds. Has not been HW tested nor on prevention. That can be done if adopter wishes it. She is fed twice daily. No serious health issues. She will be an excellent companion dog for humans, and she loves and trusts men the best, but she is not good with other dogs. She might get along with a very run easy male dog but we can’t say for sure. On the whole she is not comfortable with other dogs. She does get into dog altercations with the in home female and they are very competitive so it usually leads to the altercations. Cats are not an option for her she shows indications of wanting to interact with a cat but we are not satisfied that she really would keep things in balance. She gets a little over exuberance in car rides, she has a tendency to alert and protect her car. She doesn’t get that kind of socialization much. Her owner is a home body so she is also. She loves balls and stuffed animals and she likes sticks she finds in the yard. She is toy motivated. She is not overly treat of food motivated in training but responds wonderfully to praise. She does pretty good when on leash, not an excessive leash puller but will pull on the leash if other animals are within range of her. She is highly stimulated when meeting other dogs on leash without introductions. So she has been withheld from other dog interactions. She does fine at the veterinarians office. The vets loved her so much. Owner does her nails and she lets her feet be touched but it isn’t her favorite thing as is usual for most dogs. She does allow it. She is a talker and a vocal dog so growling and barking is her expressions for everything in her life. This is not uncommon among dogs and especially working dogs. She is crate broke and goes in fine but wants out to be with her pack, she is broke to an open wire crate. She is good with company and visitors to her home and loves to socialize with them so if she is in the crate she complains till she gets to get out and be part of the visit. She does not like a toddler energy field so no small children. She has not been around older children and has herding instincts. No children probably are probably too risky. Again she would be an ideal companion to a man who likes to hike and be adored. She is extremely loyal when she falls in love with you. She lots of personality. Completely housebroken and never had an accident in the house

HISTORY: She was 3 or four months old when the owner heard of a back yard breeder through a friend and family member. The breeder had puppies he could not sell and was going to kill them. So she was given to the owner and her family along with other two litter mates. Owner has had her ever since and was not familiar with the breed. The reason for re-homing is the two female dogs in the home cannot stop competing and the altercations are getting more serious. And the older dog is not well. So we need a new home as soon as possible and will accept a committed foster for her or consider it. Can be discussed.

GOOD: She is a funny big goofball, she does like to cuddle and is needy but she likes to initiate it and then it is all go. A man she just adores them quicker. She is a leaner with those she adores. She likes to hang out outside for a spell but is ok being a couch potato. She loves to play hide and seek with her owner hiding and her seeking. She loves sticks and plays with them all by herself. She is a bit of a tease.

BAD: She is a tad territorial and possessive but that is fixable and JCLDR can help with that easily. She is very trainable.

UGLY: Dog altercations and definitely reactive with others dogs.
