.

We rely on donations to continue rescuing dogs in need. Veterinary care, transportation, and unforeseen expenses can add up quickly. It’s important for us to keep our adoption fees affordable, but to be able to do this we offset costs with the generous support of our donors. As a 501c3 non-profit, donations made to JCLDR are fully tax-deductible. VOLUNTEER

JCLDR is run entirely by volunteers. None of us earn any money from our efforts, but we do reap the rewards of a job well done and another life saved. If you are interested in helping Catahoulas, we welcome you in rescue.

We are always in need of volunteers to help with the following:

  • Transport for dogs pulled from shelters or going from foster care to permanent homes.
  • Home visits and evaluations.
  • Checking on or pulling a dog in a local shelter.
  • Fostering! (Read more about fostering below.)

FOSTER

Fostering is probably one of the most important roles a volunteer can take on. In rescue, we rely heavily on foster homes to care for and rehabilitate shelter dogs until a permanent, loving home can be found. While fostering can be challenging, it is also one of the most rewarding ways to be involved with rescue.

Foster homes are responsible for:

  • Feeding, training, and caring for foster dogs
  • Providing de-wormer when necessary, as well as monthly heartworm preventative
  • Making sure the foster dog is safe and healthy
  • Committing to keeping the dog in your care until a suitable home can be found

JCLDR pays for all pre-approved veterinary care. Foster homes always have input as to which home the foster dog should go to, and we rely on foster parents to provide accurate information on the dog’s behavior and temperament in order to make the best decision about permanent placement.

Sometimes foster dogs are adopted in less than a month. Other times, a foster dog might hang around for six months or more before he/she is adopted. Either way, we require commitment from our foster homes to see it through until the dog can be adopted.
