Adoption Application

Thank you for your interest in adopting a dog from Janeen’s Catahoula Leopard Dog Rescue, Inc. Before you begin the process, we want to outline the steps involved. Our adoption process may feel daunting for the first time applicant, but we go to great lengths to ensure that our dogs find their forever home.

Janeen’s Catahoula Leopard Dog Rescue adoption process:

  • Step 1: Complete the below Adoption Application.
    • Please answer all questions as completely and detailed as possible.
  • Step 2: We will contact you to set up a Phone Interview.
    • Phone interviews can sometimes take up to an hour to go over everything we need to discuss, so please plan accordingly when picking a day and time with our representative.
  • Step 3: Veterinarian and landlord reference check
    • Please let your Veterinarian’s office and/or landlord know that we will be calling for a reference and give them permission to speak with us.
  • Step 4: Approval / Denial Notification
    • You will be informed of the final status of your written application via e-mail to the address you have provided us.
    • If denied, your application is closed, and you will be told why the application was denied. If approved, we will provide you instructions as to any additional information we may need and will also inform you of the next steps.
  • Step 5: Meet & Greet
    • Once you have decided on a dog you would like to meet, we will have that dog’s foster parent get in touch with you and set up a “Meet & Greet.”
    • We will review locations and travel requirements and arrange the “Meet & Greet” when possible, based on available options that take into consideration all factors of distance, dog safety, etc.
    • Long distance adoptions are possible under the right circumstances and are highly successful because we carefully screen our dogs while they are in foster care. We provide you with the clearest, most concise possible overview of our dogs to the best of our knowledge and will not withhold any information, whether positive or negative, regarding the dog’s temperament, etc., that we have been able to evaluate in the time frame we have had the dog.
  • Step 6: Adoption
    • If, after all other steps are completed, everyone is in agreement that the adoption should proceed, the adoption agreement contract will be emailed to you ahead of time for review and will need to be finalized, and payment made, before you take possession of your new dog friend.

Disclaimer:

We reserve the right in our sole discretion to refuse any application for any reason whatsoever. OUR RESCUE is under NO obligation to adopt an animal to any individual. Many factors go into determining which applicant will be matched with a particular dog. If you are not chosen for this pet, it does not mean that you are not considered a good pet owner or that your home is not acceptable. We value good adopters but the wrong dog placed in your home is a recipe for failure and we strive to make sure that that does not happen. Our goal is to place this pet in the home that will best suit his/her needs.

Our adoption process is the same for everyone and it is not our intent to frustrate you. Rather, everything we do is in the best interest of the pets in our care as well as in your best interest. We want to be a team and a support system for you and the dog and make the transition smooth and pleasant. We want to lend our expertise, care and support to you for the life of the dog, if you need it. Our goal is to give our dogs the best possible chance of finding a permanent, safe and loving home. Our adoption policies are based on our many years of experience with this breed, and with dogs in general.

Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescue dog!
